Project Description

Set in the architectural heartland of southwestern Wisconsin, just miles from Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin, this landscape honors the master’s vision of blending structure with nature. Carved into a forested slope overlooking the Wyoming Valley, the project brings Wright’s organic architecture principles to life — using native stone, clean geometry, and seamless topographical integration. This was a longer project that required coordination with the client and different contractors since it was completed during a full remodel of the house. The client came to us looking for ideas on how to transform the property. She worked with us to design the landscape she had always dreamed of that would compliment the beauty of the Frank Lloyd Wright house.

Key Features:

  • Tiered limestone terraces built to enhance natural elevation without disturbing the woodland flow
  • A sweeping natural stone staircases that invite movement while anchoring the home to the hillside
  • Native plantings and mossy edges that soften structural elements and enhance seasonal character
  • Views that open toward the Wyoming valley, framed intentionally with hardscape lines and native growth

Western Landscape completed the largest part of our whole-house, whole-yard renovation. It was the largest portion of our budget and the project lasted for about four months. The yard had been neglected by past owners, so we had a lot of cleanup to do. Luke, the team leader, was fantastic – he kept calm, was assertive with employees, displayed hard work, and had great technical expertise. The team was willing to adjust the preliminary plans and let me lead the design. I love the hardscaping the team installed, particularly the terraces, pathways, and retaining walls. The hardscaping sets the stage for my large perennial garden and enables easy access and many vantage points. I strongly recommend Western. The pricing was high, but fair, and when I had some objections about change orders the owners worked with me to make it right. If I had it to do again, I wouldn’t hesitate to hire Western Landscape.
